Anyone would have thought that with the forecast weather, conditions would have been better for a duck than a sailor!
But conditions were not as expected (although the wind was) and while strong winds and heavy showers were forecast it was a fantastic day for radio sailing heat 6 of the IOM Club Championship SCR series.
Arriving at Champion Lakes we had a strong NNE breeze blowing straight down the guts and C’s were the chosen rig for a while although a B rig, whilst struggling downwind for a while, was chosen. By start time though, the breeze had moderated and everyone switched to B’s for a good sail with some great downwind rides while having some really close racing.
While we were ready for the rain we sailed the entire afternoon without anything more than 3 minutes of drizzle (although it really went by un-noticed) and we enjoyed a great breeze which has sadly been missed for so long.
Congrats to Rosco who won the day on 16pts while Edgar took 2nd on 20pts.
It just goes to show that regardless off the forecast, it’s worth heading down to the lake and actually see what is going on. We could see heavy showers over the suburbs but nothing eventuated at Champion Lakes!
