A blustery day welcomed the small but enthusiastic group of sailors for the WA Ten Rater Metro Championship at Champion Lakes on 6th September which saw heaps of excitement.
The conditions made it challenging for the sailors who sailed most of the day with C rigs as the NNW wind approach 25+ knots at times and provided an awesome specticle for the onlookers.
Glenn Dawson with his Sanga showed his dominance from the first race and by race 5 had 4 wins and a 2nd under the belt making it a tough ask for anyone to challenge him with his goal to get through the day without any gear breakage.
Ian Sherriff with his Blade 5 put up a challenge to Glenn early and remained consistent with a majority of 2nds through to race 9 before gear failure put pay to any chances of a podium finish.
With the strong gusty winds, gear failure was the greatest challenge and both Roger Paul & Simon Ellis had their challenges with this early, once settled they were able to take some wins from Dawson but for the pair it was a fight for 2nd place and a great fight it was.
With some thrills and spills and a few high speeds incidents, at the end of the day it was Dawson who came out on top, comfortably, counting just 1's and 2's on his scorecard while the battle between Paul & Ellis was decided on a countback for 2nd.
